The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), on Sunday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to review how oil wells are allocated in the country by revoking all the licences.
SSANU's National President, Samson Ugwoke who spoke at the union National Executive Council Meeting (NEC) and pre- delegates conference in Jos, Plateau State, stated that once such licences are revoked, it could then be issued to individuals with capacities to operate the well.
Ugwoke described as sad a situation whereby individuals are richer than the country as a whole, notwithstanding that such monies are made in Nigeria.
He said: "We are endowed with oil wells and these oil wells were given to individuals who do not have the capacity, even in oil technology or in the business or economics, but they were given to them because of their positions in the federal government, because of their positions in the society.
They have made trillions of dollars into their own pockets, giving the country nothing. The stand of SSANU is that government should revoke all oil well licences and set up a committee to recover the oil wells.
