NAFDAC impounds fake cosmetic products in trade fair complex raid

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Saturday reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health by ensuring that only the quality drugs, food and products were manufactured, imported and circulated in Nigeria.
Mr Idowu Joseph, Chief Regulatory Officer, Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, in reaction to an operation that was conducted by the Agency on Friday.

Just few weeks after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) raised alarm that Nigeria’s economy was sliding into a recession, and may hit full recessionary period in 2016, if measures were not put in place to boost the rate of growth, the former governor of CBN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has called for further devaluation of the Naira.
While Sanusi stressed that further devaluation of the local currency becomes necessary to absorb shock in the system, as the economy is currently in a slow down, the current CBN’s governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said earlier that another devaluation of the Naira will bring a telling effect on the economy and severe hardship for the citizens.

Actress cum singer buries grandmother

 

Nollywood actress, Jennifer Eliogu has buried her maternal grandmother in Anambra State, Nigeria.


According to information pieced together by Pulse, the Standing Alone star joined members of her family to bid her grandmother final farewell earlier in the week.
It was further gathered that Eliogu’s grandmother, was well loved by her family and community, as several individuals gathered for her burial ceremony.
The Nollywood actress, Pulse gathered, was one of the popular faces that attended the burial.

APC claims Wike is mobilising protest against judiciary

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State chapter, has said it has reliably been informed that the state GovernorNyesom Wike has started mobilizing different sections of Rivers people to protest against the judiciary for the tribal and Supreme Court rulings that was not in his favour.
“Two top traditional rulers in the state separately informed the APC that the embattled governor summoned them for a meeting today where they suspect that the governor may request and mobilize them to endorse protest documents against the rulings of the tribunal that annulled the so-called election of the governor and the decision of the Supreme Court that dismissed his appeal on jurisdiction of the tribunal”, the party said in a statement on Friday, October 30.

Oh no! Russian plane with 224 passengers onboard crashes over Sinai, Egypt


A Kogalymavia passenger plane carrying 224 people has crashed in Egypt's Sinai penunsula. The airliner took off from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik this morning, and was heading for Russia, according to aviation sources, when it disappeared from radar. It's believed the plane was mainly carrying Russian tourists.

The plane was carrying 212 passengers and 7 crew members. 17 of the passengers are children.
Airbus A321 left Sharm-El-Sheikh for St. Petersburg with flight number 7K9268. It belongs to airline Metrojet and was 18.5 years old and was descending with about 6000 feet per minute just before signal was lost. The captain told ATC after departure of a technical fault and requested a route change. 

Local media says a recovery team is now at the site of the crash.

Tribunal dismisses petition against Adamawa legislator

Election Petition Tribunal for Adamawa sitting in Abuja has dismissed an election eligibility suit instituted against Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu Atiku, member representing Uba/ Gaya state constituency in the state assembly.
The suit which was dismissed on technical grounds, yesterday in Abuja, was filed by Hon. Mustapha Maigari, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging the eligibility of Mohammed Hayatu Atiku, of the All Progressive Congress, APC after he defeated the former to clinch the Uba/ Gaya state constituency seat in the state assembly.

Three years after his family fled their north-eastern Nigerian home to escape threats from Boko Haram militants, Mudasir Gambo must have thought his luck had changed when he won a ticket to attend the annual hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
But in a cruel twist of fate, the 19-year-old, who had memorised the entire Koran when he was eight, was among more than 700 pilgrims killed last month in a crush outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca.

Breaking news: Senate announces ministerial list

The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, Tuesday morning read out the list of ministers at the floor of the Senate.
The Minister nominees are : Abubakar Malami, Abdurahman Dambazzau, Aisha Alhassan, Lai Mohammed, Adebayo Shittu, Babatunde Raji Fashola, Udo Udoma and Ibrahim Jibril.
Other are Rotimi Amaechi, Suleiman Adamu, Chris Nigige, Kemi Adeosun, Ibeto, Kayode Fayemi, Audu Ogbeh,Hadi Sirika and Ibe Kachikwu.
The Senate President said the screening of the nominees will commence October 13.

Pilot dies during flight: 147 passengers saved when American Airlines pilot dies

The pilot of an American Airlines passenger jet died during a flight from Phoenix to Boston Monday morning, according to the airline.
The pilot who died during Flight 550 from Phoenix to Boston has been identified as American Airlinespilot Michael Johnston. Captain Johnston, 57, died reportedly from a heart attack during Monday's red-eye flight. Johnston’s co-pilot landed the Airbus A320 plane with 147 passengers and five crew members on board safely.

As reported by The Dallas Morning News on October 5, following Johnston’s death mid-air, American Airlines Flight 550 made an emergency landing at 7:13 a.m. at Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York. Johnston’s first officer, who had taken over control of the plane and landed it safely, did not continue the flight to Boston.http://www.examiner.com/

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has again come out to state that he has no interest in the appointment of his predecessor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi as minister.
He stressed that the appointment of Amaechi had nothing to do with the governance of Rivers State.

Ministerial List: Wike, Amaechi Take Battle To Senate


THE bitter feud between governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi may shift to the Senate as from tomorrow.

The fight will be over how to stop Amaechi’s screening and confirma­tion as minister repre­senting Rivers State in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

Reports say the Senate is making plans to ensure that the principal officer of the Senate, and the head of the Judiciary arm, enjoy immunity.
This is coming on the heels of the Senate President's arraignment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
According to Vanguard Newspapers, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Leo Ogor said  "if the head of the executive arm, the President, and his vice should enjoy immunity, the heads of the other two arms of government, the legislature and the judiciary, should also benefit from the immunity."
