Samsung to train 10,000 engineering students in Africa

The capacity of engineering students across countries in Africa will soon be increased by 10,000 as Samsung Electronics revealed that it has completed the training of a set of engineering students in Nigeria.
The project, which is being implemented through the Samsung Engineering Academy, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative between Samsung Electronics and the Lagos State Government with support from the World Bank and the Lagos Eko Secondary School Education Project, is designed to create a large pool of skilled engineers with a target of training students across Africa.
At the completion of the programme in Lagos, 53 technicians graduated from the academy, with the hope that they will help deepen the pool of well trained technicians in the country.
Head, Lagos State Eko Secondary School Project, Mrs. Folasade Fasehun, at the graduation of the 53 technicians applauded Samsung Electronics West Africa for investing in such a critical initiative that has the potential of empowering beneficiaries to become entrepreneurs.
She explained that the students were trained on basic, intermediate and advanced engineering skills saying that they have been equipped with sound technical skills to build a better future for themselves while contributing towards driving the economy growth and development.
Managing Director of Samsung West Africa Mr. Brovo Kim, said that the Samsung Engineering Academy in 2012 was established to empower indigent Nigerians and positively impact communities.
He said that the Samsung Electronics Engineering Academy provided hands-on, vocational skills training, opening up wellpaying job opportunities for its graduates to work in the electronics industry either as employees in repair centres, assembly lines or as independent entrepreneurs.
The graduating students who were drawn from Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja, have successfully completed one year intensive specialised training at the academy
